POLE DANCE AT THE NEXT OLYMPIC GAMES 🥳 : DREAM OR REALITY?
After receiving recognition from the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), the international pole dance federation can now apply to the International Olympic Committee. ✅
It was not selected as an additional discipline for the Paris Summer Olympics: instead, 4 federations became provisional members: surfing, climbing, breakdancing and skateboarding.Pole dance will need to meet criteria of universality, popularity, technique, potential and historical relevance to appear on the next list. For example, it will need to demonstrate that the sport is practised in at least 35 countries across 3 continents. 🥁
On a more practical level, pole dance has a better chance than a team sport, as it does not unreasonably increase the number of athletes and does not require overly expensive technical facilities. Key criteria for the Committee.
Surprising: some members of the community are actually warning against pole dance entering the Olympics: they fear that a practice which draws its beauty from its originality could be standardised and stripped of its essence.🧩
